Word on the Street Festival in Toronto

Yesterday, I attended my first Word on the Street book fair event in Toronto. It was amazing and the number of people in attendance was quite stirring. I had a booth in an area with several of my fellow independent authors. We had lots of people stop and ask us questions and engage with us.

My favourite sale of the day was made by a 10 year old girl named Julie. She first came by with her dad and looked at my book. She sidled up to her dad and whispered to him. He said “Let’s have a look around first.”  About an hour later she was back for another look. They left again.

Awhile later, she was back again and said her choice was down to my book and one from another booth. Could she read the back blurb again? Of course! She read it and left.

This time, within minutes, she was back and asked if she could read a paragraph. I smiled and said, “Please do”.  She opened the book at random and began to read. Her dad watched as she read the first page, moved on to the next and then turned the page and kept reading. He got out his wallet.

This was my favorite sale of the day too! Katya and I were both cheering when she finally purchased your book and we told people about it later when they asked us for highlights of the day. It was so wonderful to watch her explore so many books and then make that choice. I hope she gets in touch with you after she reads it! :-)
